Re: New to the game, and advice would be appreaciated

Playing is the best way to improve your game, but you can find a lot of good reading material on the interwebz, a fair amount aimed at newbies. Dip has had more written about it than any board game other than chess and go.

Re: Dawn of the Enlightenment Version 2.0

FlaviusAetius, PM me your email address. I will get you on the Observers list. The Observers will have first crack if someone either doesn't confirm participation or NMRs out during the game.

Re: Dawn of the Enlightenment Version 2.0

Still need 2 players. Please sign up for what in my opinion is a masterpiece of variant design with a very nice roster of players.

Re: Weak Press

There are precious few people anywhere in the world offering to teach Diplomacy. And if I don't call attention to myself, my offer may go unnoticed... Though I was being humorous, I do not mean to denigrate your offer. Getting past false humility is something teachers often need to do to be effecti...

Re: Weak Press

Dip tactics are easy. The number of solo's in the ODC so far implies otherwise. Though I agree with your premise of press being harder then tactics. Let me qualify a little. Tactics are easy for me . With sufficient study and practice they should be easy for most people. Strategy likewise. As with ...

Re: Weak Press

Of the trio of strategy, tactics and communications (small 'd' diplomacy) in Diplomacy, communications is by far the most challenging of the the three and for that reason the most fun. Dip tactics are easy.

Re: Rule clarification.

The exception to that rule is if you actually dislodge the unit you are attacking, but that is not the case here.

Re: Drawing is the new winning?

Damn, I noticed this as well, but I thought it was a fluke... I actually went to play Diplomacy because I was tired of draws or de-facto draws when playing Hearts of Iron IV and Wargame Red Dragon, and here I am again... Plus, I have a very defensive/prudent way to play in all games, so that maximi...

Re: Drawing is the new winning?

Why, why, why do people feel the need to shove a square peg in a round hole? A draw may be a valid objective (whether it should be is a slightly different discussion), depending upon the circumstances. It may even be (though it often isn't) quite an accomplishment. A draw just ain't a win. No amount...

Re: Question about support

thanks for the 2 answers so far. they seem contradictory. let me clarify the situation: My Unit A is moving. My unit B is ordered to support that unit. I did not designate that Unit B is supporting a Hold. Unit B is definitely not ordered to support Unit A's move/attack. Unit B is merely ordered to...

Maximizing your score is the highest objective in the game.
Ehhhh... no.

Diplomacy tounaments have scoring. Many, but not all Diplomacy communities have scoring. Diplomacy has no scoring.
