Just in response to Octavious, this:

I don't believe in telling people whatbalck etc voters will vote for, I believe in listening to the voices and perspectives of those voters.

There's no fundamental problem with them being old white men. You're buying into that daft left wing philosophy that claims that ethnic minorities are so feeble that they are unable to be inspired or motivated by anyone who doesn't vaguely resemble them. It is utter, and somewhat racist, nonsense, and minorities will vote for policies (or be swayed by personalities) as much as anyone else.

The problem with them being quite as old as they are is that frankly humans wear out, slow down, and eventually stop. National leader is not something that you want from someone in their 80s who has got to the stage in life when getting the names of close family correct is a hit and miss exercise. If you're a queen and can scale down your duties to wearing a hat, and delegate sword waving and supermarket opening duties to the family, fair enough. If you're the most powerful person in the world... less so.

The other problem with being old is that it gives you plenty of time to pick up political baggage. Trump has successfully turned holding political baggage into a circus act, and entertains his supporters by juggling vast amounts of it, old and new, and making it briefly vanish or treble in size at will. Left wing voters are far harsher critics infected with a new zealous intolerance to even the more minor indiscretions. It will be difficult for them.

The problem with Biden and Bernie is that they're both old white men. I think to beat Trumptoad a different type of candidate is needed. I also think that a strong woman candidate on the ticket offers tactical advantages to exploit Trumptoad's misogyny.

I'm a daffy old external observer of politics in the USA, it's of interest because living in the Antipodes the USA is a military alliance partner/master and China is our biggest economic relationship and the Chinese leadership has over recent decades trained our Federal Governments to instictively use the "pre~emptive kow tow" in diplomatic squabbles.
The news reports indicate that Biden has had big wins on super Tuesday and that the billionaire Bloomberg's campaign has failed. So it's essentially a race between Biden and Bernie Sanders is the summary.
I'm with Flash, Biden doesn't inspire me, and I gather he has been making embellishments to his "when I got arrested in South Africa whilst protesting for the release of Mandela" yarns.
I can see that Biden might be acceptable to moderate Republicans who are disgusted with Trump whereas Sanders is probably unnaceptable.

My guess is Sanders will not step down to 'unify' the party, esp as a self-declared independent candidate.

He will however not run as a spoiler candidate in the general election, allowing ample time for democratic supporters to rally behind Biden (if he survives the season...)

Yeah, if the Republican establishment was that efficient, Trump wouldn't have won as easily.
I wonder who Biden will pick as VP

OK, looks like the Super Tuesday vote was pretty decisive - it's Biden. Bernie couldn't even win in the midwest (Minnesota) which is the battleground for 2020. Michigan on the 10th is his last chance - if he can't win that he should probably drop out.

I think it shows that most democrats are pragmatic rather than ideological. I think most democrats agree that the most important thing now is see Trump off...which I am fully onboard with even though Biden isn't my candidate (he is pretty much a "meh").

I was rooting for the Klobucharger but Biden is literally going senile. How did he end up the consolation candidate.

Yeet, Gabbard got a delegate.

What a mess this election is

Or the vice presidential choices are extremely important.

To put it another way, all the male candidates are in the coronavirus "death zone".

Good God... Trump is the youngest male candidate left in the 2020 presidential contest.

You do know the president's wife not only has a separate bedroom in the White House on a different floor, but for most of his term she slept in a different city. :)
Surprisingly enough the sleeping habits of the President's family have not been of massive interest to me. Thinking about it, though, if one partner has a job with highly irregular hours then separate bedrooms makes a lot of sense.

I'm sure you had a point in mind when making this post, but I've no idea what it is.

If one thing has come out of the Democratic race thus far, it's a demonstration of how good the expensive end of the US health care system is. The three score and ten are a distant memory for most of the front runners, and at a time when most normal people would be putting their feet up and planning fishing trips they're committing to ten years of the most stressful job on the planet. They are strange times indeed when the President sleeps with a woman young enough to be his daughter, and your first thought is good on her for still being sexually active after retirement.
Is the part about the health system an attempt at humour?

Biden is damaged goods, Warren lies too often. Just like Clinton if either of these two get the nomination they will be mired in mud through the campaign (you want someone "clean" as a juxtaposition against Trump's lying and corruption). Bloomberg may not be too bad but as the debate shows he also has too much history which hurts him big with the base.

I do like Bernie as a person. He is an honest and he had kept to his principles (he would not even endorse his son Levi for congress in 2018 as he does not believe in political dynasties)...but he has so much history in saying good things about Cuba or the Soviet Union and he is making too many enemies. If he is the nominee, I hope he wins...but he could go down in flames McGovern-style with the democrats losing the house too. That would be very bad. And even if he wins, I just can't see him lasting two terms. He is already too old.

Of the other two, I guess Klobuchar would be better than Pete...but she had an awful debate in Nevada. Things she should have been able prepared for to easily swat away (like forgetting the name of the Mexican president), she stumbled over...and the fighting with Pete was so petty and silly it was painful to watch.

If Bernie is the nominee, I hope he doesn't do something dumb like nominate Warren to be his VP (she could perhaps take a cabinet position though). Pete or Klobuchar would be better (i.e. someone from the midwest), but I just don't know how you reconcile the different policy positions.

Trump failed through most of his debates and still won. People care less about the debates than they used to.

Research has unfortunately shown that it takes 30 or more viewings for information in political commercials stick in a viewer's memory. Which is why we are inflicted with them over and over again. Bloomberg has the money and willingness to spend on advertising without needing to spend time getting donations. Even without a real opponent, Trump doesn't have the money to keep up with Bloomberg and is having to spend it sooner just to compete.

I watched snippets of the latest Democrats candidates tv debate, Bloomberg's first and he didn't go well, Warren pummeled him. Bernie looking happy in the lead & Biden being Biden. The others, Pete, Amy & another woman looking increasingly unlikely to succeed..How important is the debate damage to Bloomberg, or will.his capacity to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on TV advertising make his poor performance irrelevant? For a guy who can purchase the best consultants, experts etc Bloomberg was unimpressive.
