Damn, can someone else confirm that they can't change the filters? If so I'll need to see how I can change the sharing settings.

Ok, that at least seems more credible. He’s allowed a decent margin given his longer conquering history here but gives me a more realistic bar to aim for now.

You can turn off the active filter (on the far right) and then sort by max rating.
I had to make a copy in My Drive before I could do that.

I updated GR2 to include max rating. You can turn off the active filter (on the far right) and then sort by max rating. The column right of Max Rating is the game # at which you hit your max rating.

It only starts to track max rating after your provisional rating is dropped (after 7 games).

Top for the general GR2 rating:
MadMarx - 2240
President Eden - 2031
zultar - 1970
VillageIdiot - 1964
peterwiggin - 1954

MM still has it by a wide margin

Wait, MadMarx all-time score is 40% higher then anybody else in history!?!

Who’d you pay off?!!!

I think there are all sorts of stats that would be fun, and not just how many consecutive games xorxes won in that huge AvF tournament last year, but who has the second most consecutive games won in that specific tournament, and fifth most. It would be fun for many people to hold many sorts of different records, though I imagine that sort of thing would take a lot of time/effort, and I see all-time GR as at least being a drop in that sort of bucket...

All-Time scoring is awesome, I love the carrot of trying to achieve best there ever was!

What most people want from GR, I'd imagine, is an indication of how much of a fight a particular player will offer. As such I'd say a rating that takes into account how much effort a player can dedicate to a game is desirable. If you were better on a boxing match between Tyson Fury and AJ, you'd be interested in knowing whether Fury had been committed to a training regime or eating donuts all year, and how good they were at their peak is largely irrelevant.

But yeah, the all time list adds to the fun, even if the changing nature of the game (from the introduction of the draw button to the growth of unranked games) makes it a very inexact science.

To further argue for an all-time GR tab, as a fun way to compare what we were able to pull off when we were at our “best”... On my profile, I somewhat recently won 15 straight AvF games (preceded by a draw vs xorxes, preceded by a solo vs xorxes), against high quality competition, which was obviously very *very* lucky, but it still somehow happened. It would be fun to be able to compare this sort of unlikely statistic with others, as well as many other similar types of stats, but the best we can easily do right now is look at all-time GR since that sort of lucky streak will have an impact on GR...

As far as all-time GR not being an accurate assessment of current skill, I would argue that current GR isn’t perfectly accurate either. In order for me to perform at my highest level, it takes a lot of time (for me) to be as thorough as I need to be, writing many long messages to everyone in each game, etc. and right now I simply don’t have the time to do so. Does that mean I am less skilled now compared to when I had more time to play? Or, perhaps my all-time GR better captures my true ability and my current GR is more a reflection of what I am currently capable of based on all factors, including how much time I spend playing? Who knows, point being that all-time GR does indeed mean something, neither GR is perfect, but they each provide info to consider and discuss in a fun way that increases interest in webDip.

To say that a person's all-time GR isn't very meaningful is absurd. That's like saying golfers think the number of major championships won by Tiger versus Jack versus Arnold isn't very meaningful. Numerous athletes are defined (or at least compared, even if not meaningfully, but just for fun) by their most impressive stats, like Super Bowls won, playoff games played, goals scored, etc. We play diplomacy, so it's fun to compare diplomacy stats, for many of us. We don't have a good way (that I know if) to keep track of consecutive games won/draw, etc., but we do have GR and are able to easily sort (everyone's, not just "active" players) each and everyone's "best stretch of games played" and that can only be a positive.
Agreed. All Time GR was fun to have.

Your current rating isn't 0. It's whatever you had before you dropped off..

The All Time list ranked by peak rating, which isn't a sensible way to rank people, so it was removed. People drop off of the list due to inactivity to keep it relevant and less bloated, and to encourage people to play more. You can always find your most recent rating and compare to the current list.

Your current rating is your "all-time" rating. That file ranked players by their peak GR, which is still a column in the sheet. A ranking is meant to oscillate, converging on one's true skill (not to mention that skill level can change), so that number isn't very meaningful.
My current rating is zero, so that would mean my current skill level is zero.

I am fine whith that. But that does not mean I was always without skill.

What I would want to have is oportunity to see all time list so I can see what was my best skill level and how it compares to others. All time list has different type of data. July list show data for the July.

I think it is needed and it has its value.

Shh. If we convince him it only counts when he's on the list, he'll play more.

So my question was partly answered in the thread, but by combining the spreadsheets, players who haven't finished a game recently are excluded.

I don't really care. GR ratings can't reflect players like me who have joined games in progress anyway, but I am mildly curious.

Whatever happened to the all-time GR list? I feel discriminated against.

I remember that someone (whoever was handling GR at the time) decided that all-time rating wasn't really representative of anything and decided to discontinue it. Maybe I'll try add that to GR2 and see how it looks.
