I drafted something similar when we added spectated games a few years ago. I can't remember why we didn't go with it - I think it might have been because it looked cluttered when there were many many games on a user's profile.

I think having the small map preview is an improvement, though. You can reduce the clutter a bit by removing the country size progress bars on each game, and further by removing the movement arrows (that would create a new image type, which could also be sized appropriately).
Nothing has to be reduced. Everything looks great.
The one thing I haven't resolved yet: in the right column we have all covered with Fog Of War (in this type of games) in active user games.

Flame, could you use a different image host? Maybe imgur?
Ok, I will use it in my future posts...

Pushing it to the open source project on Github is standard.

We can feature Pacifist Diplomacy as the longest running game, I’m sure that would be a lovely preview.
May I post the code right here not to Github project?

Ok. I put to the left side block with "Featured games" - one game randomly picked from the 3 top active games with the biggest money-pot.

3 RANDOM NEW GAMES IN THE LEFT COLUMN

Seriously, you are obsessing about the wrong thing.

What evidence do you have that new players are leaving the site after registering, because of the lack of information on the home screen about random games that they cannot join?
Ok! I agree with you.

I've done 3 random NEW games in the left column (I think this will help to collect the needed amount of players for the game more faster).

Or maybe there we should place "random New game" or the best variant would be "Random game where substitution is needed"

Like the Featured Game. There is already the start mark for the largest pot games, right?

Maybe show a Featured Game in that section instead of a random one? Like, the mod team could select a number of games that could appear there and then it randomly selects between them. Kinda like the old League of Legends client would occasionally pop up high level games you could spectate on its homepage.
Hmm.... smth like The Final Game of the recent tournament to be placed here or "The Biggest points Pot game of the server"...

I'm not sure how good an idea a random game is. Many of our games are great, but others... not so much. We wouldn't do ourselves any favours by attempting to entice new players with the prospect of an unstoppable juggernaut slowly carving its way through a couple of civil disorders, the inept, and the globally furious.

Looks good. If the point is to tease new players, you could show a random game on the right if the player currently is not in a game.

The small maps on the right look cool.

Having a small map for a random game you're not playing in, is kinda pointless.
The idea of "Random map" block - is to make a visual teaser for the rookies who are new to WebDiplomacy and to restrain him from leaving the site. Cause, when a new player register to the site - he is redirected to the homepage, where he find out an ascetic scene and immediately leave the website...

Yes I will send a code to github.

Agree with Jamie about the maps on the left but I like the one on the right. Have you pushed a branch to the webDip Github? If you haven’t, please take the time to do that for me. All three devs (jmo, Squigs, and I) are short on time due to some positive real life matters so it may take us some time to check it out but I would like to pull it down and see how that works.
