vDip is our sister site. They have a different mod team and offer a lot of variants. The player base is a lot smaller though. Some of their best maps make it to webDip, after the bugs have been taken out.

What is the difference between that site and this one?

I agree that variant looks like a lot of fun!

Interesting, I created a vDip account with the same email address. Try contacting their mod team.

I've had the same issue.

How do you play a vdip game and make an account? I tried using my webdip login and it wouldn’t work, but when I tried to register with my email it said I already had an account. So I did the forgot username and password thing with my email and it said I don’t have an account with that email

I find it interesting. Big powers and minors. Let's do it!

That actually looks like a blast. Not quite what I was thinking of, but close

Yeah, the half classic, half chaos thing was what I was suggesting. How does one submit an idea to vDiplomacy? I don't know how to program a map myself.

Sounds like something vDiplomacy might do!

It seems OP was thinking about something still different, where the traditional powers still have their usual home centres, while each neutral becomes a 1-centre "small power"...
Half Classic and half Chaos, but even more chaotic than Chaos imho :o

This exists already. Join a Chaos game and enjoy!

Hi! First-time poster here, so I don't know if this is where this should go, but I had a thought this morning about what might make for an interesting variant of the classic Diplomacy game: What if every country in Europe started with a player controlling it. In other words, what if Belgium, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Serbia, Greece, Rumania, Bulgaria, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway were all player-controlled and each had an army (or navy) defending them at the start of the game?

It would make for a slower game, as it would take the bigger powers much greater effort to conquer the smaller territories. But it would also make for much more interesting Diplomacy. If you were playing as one of the little countries, you would have to work quickly to form alliances with your neighbors to protect yourself (or to work together to eat your other neighbors). If you were a big country, you would need to decide whether it would be better to try to slowly your smaller neighbors out, or whether diplomacy with them would be worth it in the long run.

I don't know, it might make for a very boring variant. Certainly it would have to be played with Sum-of-Squares scoring to be any fun. But I think it does have potential to be interesting. What do people think?
