04 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1901: Germany and Italy met in Geneva today and signed a defensive pact. Which ensures that attacks on one will result in Retaliation by both. Rumors say more nations will soon join the defensive pact.
04 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1901: As much as I want to hang around on here all day I have to go do some work...I'll be back around lunchtime to check in.
04 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1901: It may be morning or lunchtime where you are. But that doesn't mean anything to the rest of us! Sounds like you are about 6-7 hours behind me - so that must be Brasil or Eastcoast US or Quebeq area.
04 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1901: I'm in Kentucky, USA. Not exactly east coast, but still east coast time zone =)
04 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1901: Must be one heck of a question. :)
04 Feb 09 UTC Spring, 1902: i gotta run - i'll be back on later
05 Feb 09 UTC Spring, 1902: This has been an interesting game for me - and one in which I am learning quite a lot!

I have never tried a juggernaut alliance as Turkey or as Russia because I think it just screams "attack us!". However, I think this was the game in which I should have tried it.

I was concerned about Babak right from the start because of his outstanding record and from his comments he made in the forum when he first joined. I just had a gut feeling that he was a very good player.

Even though I kind of wanted to try working with someone who I thought was a good player I didn't really feel like this was the game to do it because Austria can't really afford to work with Turkey. I kept up a (pretty good) pretense of working with him in Spring 01.

The problem came with Russia. I felt like I really needed to move to the Black Sea in order to really sell to Austria that I wasn't going to attack him. Russia did not want me to but because of some other info I received I felt like I had to.

That one move is what has caused a spiral of events.

I was unable to convince Russia that my move to the Black Sea was benign and so he agreed to support Austria into Bulgaria. Bulgaria had offered to support me into Rumania. I had no intention of moving to Rumania - I wanted Italy to support me into Greece and to take Trieste. Italy didn't want to do that and so I offered to support Italy into Greece instead. He didn't want to do that either (now I know why - he's been allied with Babak all along and their bounce in Trieste was arranged). Italy told me he would take care of Austria and I should just take Austria's offer of Rumania.

I couldn't seem to get Russia to make a plan with me and so I made a last second decision to go ahead and move to Rumania. What a stupid move that was. The clues were all there that I was being set up. Italy knew about my move that only Austria and I had discussed - that should have been a big red flag. Russia was upset with me and Austria is no dummy - he would obviously capitalize on it. But, like a lamb to the slaughter, I made my fateful move.

Of course after Austria took Bulgaria I was in pretty bad shape with Russia also in Armenia. After spending all day today trying to get some pressure on Russia and Austria it just didn't work. I even changed my build in order to try to gain some trust. But instead that change seems to have sparked even more animosity. Here is my latest message from Italy which was preceded by him quoting me saying I was going to build an army:

"I'm not much for a stab, so I'll be frank that because I don't trust you and that you built a fleet, I'm coming to try and gain an SC in Smyrna or Const."

Well - what's a Turkey to do??

My reason for posting this is so that even though this game may be unsalvageable at this point for me, hopefully those of you who thought I was some kind of dirty liar will at least understand what happened from my perspecive.

My second reason for posting this is to congratulate Babak on the win that I feel sure is coming his way.

-Jacob
05 Feb 09 UTC Spring, 1902: wow jacob - i must say - I thank you for the win... lets pack up and go home. wait... whats that you say? I'm at 5 supply centers? baah! who needs 18 when you can win with 5! its the new rules you know ;)

Jacob - in all seriousness - this is way too early for an EOG statement even from you... turkey is a hard nut to crack, an you certainly can do your part in staying alive until someone stabs someone else in the east.... theoretically - you still dangle the danger of an italy in front of France and hope he moves to wms, 'russia is a big baddie' to england for an attack on stp which is open... 'austria is moving to boh' to germany and get him whatever it takes.... its not over yet, and giving up should not be an option ;)

as for your moves - you played and diplomed well - but in all honesty - Otto was better ;)

05 Feb 09 UTC Spring, 1902: hmmm...no such command. I guess we'll have to play it out.

05 Feb 09 UTC Spring, 1902: we need to tell kestas... what we really need is a /concede to Babak order hehe
06 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1902: well - so much for that - what happend to you concedeing jacob... you are such a liar :-p
06 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1902: who said i was conceding?
06 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1902: you know - it would have been much easier if you had.
06 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1902: yeah - or if you hadn't lied from the start :P
06 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1902: hehe...no matter though - we're each playing our own game I guess =)
06 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1902: oh my!!! lying in a game of Dip? god forbid.
06 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1902: now who's getting emotional?? :P

26 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1908: Otto tricked me. I am innocent. Babak made me do it.
26 Feb 09 UTC Autumn, 1908: this game has been over for a while. i believe i announced the result a few years back and congradulated the soloist.

so yeah, i was the one who told italy what to do - all to make sure my prediction turned out to be correct. :-)
27 Feb 09 UTC Spring, 1909: France- if we meet again, I hope you'll remember that stabbing me here didn't earn you a win, or even a draw. I meant what I said about denying you my centers no matter what it did to help Russia.
