18 May 20 UTC GGs, that was stressful as hell. Got lucky taking MUN in A08, which let me build a much needed army for stabbing Austria, which is the only reason I survived :/

small thank you to England for stabbing France finally, I was trying to incentivize you to do it when I popped your army in TYR in A13 :P

big high five to Turkey, nice working with you at the end, I debated attacking you in A15 but couldn't get over the kindness you had showed when France was trying to break my defenses. This was probably a bad play, not sure, gonna review later. Either way, I'm thrilled to make the draw with you :)
18 May 20 UTC Good game everyone! I'm shocked I managed to make the comeback I did. It was your attack on Austria that saved me, Italy, so helping you hold Tunis against France was the least I could do (and, at the time, I was still finishing off Austria and definitely didn't want a war with you, so I guess my plan worked in that regard!). I do have to apologize for getting greedy and taking some of your stuff near the end; for the briefest moment I thought that I might have a chance to go solo, but England outguessed me in Germany's old territory (well done England, BTW), and you did a good job communicating that you would throw the game if I didn't stop attacking you, so it all worked out in the end :)
18 May 20 UTC I passed three years without a movement, than I had to trait France (a good allie).
GG Turkey and Italy, I hoped one of you would have done a mistakes, but you didn't. Cool!
19 May 20 UTC I did wonder whether an Italian stab was coming, but am very new to Gunboat. I guess I hoped that we could continue fighting back to back, as I was finally (finally!) about to make a breakthrough against Turkey. Turkey is incredibly difficult to knock out with just three units left! Was there anything I could have done to deter that stab?

...To be fair, if you hadn’t, I guess I would probably have ended up stabbing you once Turkey and Russia had fallen, though, so it was the right call to make.

I’m happy that I managed to survive as long as I did afterwards, though.

Well played, folks, this was good fun!

Maybe if you had reacted to my army moving to TYR in S08? When you didn't move to defend any centers, I assumed that you were 100% invested in the alliance so I knew I could go ahead with my plan to stab you in A09.

The other thing that would have discouraged a stab would be not building a 3rd fleet in W05, for two reasons.

First, three fleets is excessive for killing off Turkey. I saw your reasoning, Turkey had ION with a support hold and three fleets would be the only way to break that. But that's too focused on the waters.

Another army would have let you take over Russia faster, which in turn means sneaking around into ARM at some point. Or maybe Russia panics while under attack and moves against Turkey, forcing a retreat from ION. Or something else. The army is just much more flexible. Imagine taking GAL in S06 and what that could have led to :)

And if you had another army lying around...that's another army deterring me from stabbing you. Even if it was just sitting in SER, that increases the risk of my stab going poorly.

Second, three fleets means that at some point or another, those fleets are going to head west...towards me. Two fleets, well, in the late game you could park one in BLA and another in GRE and we could still be allies. But three implies that eventually we are going to have to duke it out on the high seas and I would rather stab you than face you at full strength, especially knowing France was going to attack me in S09.

This combined with that fact that three fleets are not much use for defending the Austrian homeland meant that I felt pretty confident about stabbing you.

Also, this website is great for learning about gunboat, this is the page for the Austrian solo path(s) (https://brotherbored.com/diplomacy/gunboat-solo-win-intro/austria/).
19 May 20 UTC I’ve been reading through those articles and had a Discord meeting with him at the weekend - sadly too late to help! XD

Thanks for the feedback, it’s much appreciated!
19 May 20 UTC Oh nice! Well, you're doing the right things, just a matter of time and experiencing lots of situations :)
