18 Feb 19 UTC Autumn, 1908: Gotta love these 3 day turns
24 Feb 19 UTC Anyone want to call this a draw? Getting a bit bored. Never joining a 4 day game again.
24 Feb 19 UTC I'm good for a draw.
24 Feb 19 UTC It is extremely long. I'd rather wait to see if Russia stays AFK tho. Then I will definitely want to draw.
24 Feb 19 UTC Russia will reemerge and mete out justice.
24 Feb 19 UTC My draw vote is in. I’d suggest attaching anyone who hasn’t got the draw vote in just to ‘encourage them’.
24 Feb 19 UTC Uh. That is Russia and Germany. I have been attacking Germany from the start or planning to. He hasnt even noticed.
25 Feb 19 UTC Lol what
25 Feb 19 UTC At the very least we can knock out France to make this a 3-way draw no?
25 Feb 19 UTC It's sum-of-squares scoring so it's not really worth it to eliminate the smaller players like France or myself.
25 Feb 19 UTC I am not small
25 Feb 19 UTC Germany is worth two and a half more points than you, but only has 3 more centers.
25 Feb 19 UTC France is always underestimated. This is not fair. I am more important than everyone. How can you not know this?
25 Feb 19 UTC Ah, I forget about these funky scoring methods.
26 Feb 19 UTC I’m sorry for the delays and missing deadlines lately. Real world pressures make me strongly favor a draw right now. I’ve entered that vote, but will stay with you all to the best of my ability one way or the other.
26 Feb 19 UTC Thanks. Up to you Germany. All my units are holding now.
26 Feb 19 UTC If Germany doesn't want to draw and Russia can't keep playing, we can always ask an admin to find a replacement for Russia (if Russia agrees).
26 Feb 19 UTC I just want the game to end. Should never have joined a 4 day game. I’m happy to assist against Germany assuming he’s the only one who won’t draw.
26 Feb 19 UTC <voice from beyond the grave>

I have to say, it's extremely galling to hear you discussing a draw just because you're bored.

If you can't agree - gang up on the recalcitrant!

I'll go back to haunting my catacombs now...
26 Feb 19 UTC It is a shame, isn't it England?
26 Feb 19 UTC I haven't made up my mind. I sympathize that Russia has a new job and real life stuff going on. But everyone else just seems tired of the game and bored which as England said is a little preposterous. I recognize the turns are long but so what? It's what we signed up for.

Part of me wants to draw the game because I don't want to draw the game out forever because I'm the only one that wants to keep playing. The other part of me says screw that, things were finally going in my favor.
26 Feb 19 UTC If you want the game to end fast you can always feed me a win ;)
26 Feb 19 UTC I didn't sink hours into strategizing and negotiating and writing messages etc. just to have a couple other powers shut down the game because they're not getting the results they want and are bored.

I'd certainly be open to playing with a replacement for Russia.
26 Feb 19 UTC And while an admin is involved we could speed up turn length too right?
26 Feb 19 UTC I don't mind the turns being long and the game dragging on for two more months. I do mind not knowing if Russia will play his turn or not. I'm finally seeing some action after all this time, but if he misses a turn at a critical time this can break me.

So with this in mind, one option is to ask to have Russia replaced (if he agrees to it). However, if Russia is replaced the new player may have different plans than the original player. This means that everyone who has sacrificed opportunities and good relations with other countries by building good diplomatic relations with Russia could be a net loser if Russia were replaced. I, for one, would be a net loser with this option as the current Russian player is my only shot at a win since I've basically burned the bridges with Turkey, and my old ally France won't last very long against Germany. I feel like a draw is the most sensible option at this point in the game, for the reason stated above.
26 Feb 19 UTC Alternatively, you just cancel
26 Feb 19 UTC I think that cancelling would be unfair to those who have been successful up to now.
26 Feb 19 UTC A draw rewards Germany by giving him more points than he started with. It’s obviously really important to him!
26 Feb 19 UTC Turkey, I don't care about points. I really don't. I care about playing for the best possible end result for me, and playing a game to the end. When you play, you give the game your all, you don't half-ass it or drop when you feel like it.

When you don't play for the best possible end result, or don't commit to seeing the game through, it throws off the game balance and spoils the experience for others at the table.

I'm sorry if that opinion upsets you, but I believe in a little thing called sportsmanship. This site would suck ass if everyone just bailed on games whenever they felt like it.
26 Feb 19 UTC Italy makes some fair points though.
26 Feb 19 UTC That was entirely my point. NMRs have thrown the game balance off. I presume it was sportsmanship asking us all to throw the game so you could win?
27 Feb 19 UTC I wish Russia would return. She was my only chance as well. The German dog needs a good spanking!
27 Feb 19 UTC I want to finish this game and watch Germany get retribution
27 Feb 19 UTC Maybe I shouldn't have said that but that is what I am thinking. Now the dog will bark even louder.
27 Feb 19 UTC I'm glad that Germany has some consideration for my points. I do believe that playing in a spirit of integrity (not giving up when the situation is dire) and sportsmanship (despite the deceptions and backstabs) is the overall goal of this game, and that you should give all that you can and see every game through. Some weeks ago I offered a 7-way draw to the players of a game where I was in the leading position. I certainly could have made more points, but considering what had happened in that game that 7-way draw was the most satisfying way to end the game for everyone (including me). About a week ago we drew a game after England NMR'ed in 1902.

I agree with Germany that points don't really matter. What matters is playing a good game. I believe that this has been a good game for the first years, especially with the suspense of seeing how the France/England/Germany fighting would conclude with me and some help from France desperately trying to hold of the Juggernaut. But the 2 Russian NMRs in the past 4 turns, along with the possibility of more NMRs in the future, or a totally different player in control of Russia, don't make this a good game anymore.

Drawing is not a great ending, I'll give you that. But I think it's the best way to end this game in a "good" way. The alternatives are cancelling (unfair to Germany, Turkey and Russia), keep playing with the possibility of more Russian NMRs (making this game worse than it already is), or replacing the Russian player (breaking the flow of the game, and being unfair to some players as I've mentioned before in my other post).
27 Feb 19 UTC No turkey, I was hoping Russia could recommit to playing or we could find a replacement player. I don't think that's totally unreasonable. Why don't you cool it on the snotty comments? You're just making me want to drag this out of spite.
27 Feb 19 UTC Everyone else is happy with a draw.
27 Feb 19 UTC Also, come on, can you seriously not take a joke about feeding me the win? Has this game left you that salty?
27 Feb 19 UTC More weary. Just please draw.
27 Feb 19 UTC Can we all vote to pause the game until we find a suitable solution?
27 Feb 19 UTC No, I'm just gonna toss in my vote to draw, tired of squabbling. I hate to do so, especially as I feel like I'm caving to Turkey's petulance, but I don't have it in me to drag out the game when evidently I'm the only one who wants to keep playing. And as I said Italy has made some good points about a draw being the best / most "fair" option for ending the game given Russia's NMRs.
27 Feb 19 UTC I know the draw wasn’t ideal but I do not think the draw was a poor result. Well played, all of you. When I can settle into a better routine I hope to resume this fine hobby and would enjoy engaging with each of you again.
27 Feb 19 UTC Yeah. GG all. You've all been a pleasure to play with by and large.
27 Feb 19 UTC GG, cheers!
27 Feb 19 UTC Ok game over. Now we can be friends again. Germany. It was only in tbe spirit of the game that I called you dog. But now it is over. You had me.
27 Feb 19 UTC Germany played a very fine game to be honest. Very well done.
27 Feb 19 UTC Hahaha no worries at all France. I played like an asshole to be honest. We should have teamed up to dominate from the start...
27 Feb 19 UTC I'll second that <hollow laughter>
27 Feb 19 UTC England was a basket case and France a willful idiot who wanted to believe England was not a trickster. But he was a trickster
28 Feb 19 UTC In this game, yes. And look how that planned out :-).

Still. A most enjoyable, if brief game.
