12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: also, Belgian Congo is now known as Zaire.

The country currently called the Congo was the French colonial Congo.

Of course, most of the current African borders were drawn by European colonial leaders who didn't respect most of the natural cultural birders at the time.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: 'Tis a funky place, would seriously recommend checking out the Poisonwood Bible for a fun read about the colonisation.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: They eat people down there.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Don’t.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: What? Isn't that how the forum meme goes?
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: It is, but it is better off forgotten
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Is it?
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Sounds like some One Ring shit
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Russia and I are old school.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Who created this game, anyway? Someone familiar with that meme, I'd have thought, based on the name.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Yep, I'd forgotten about that thread. People in the actual Congo are subject to one of the worst human rights catastrophes in the world, with something like 6 million dead and more displace from the Civil War and aftermath. The West ignores it completely, of course. It's pretty close to joking about the Holocaust in my book. Of course, everyone is tired of my rants, and I'm nowhere near as funny as Brainbomb (It's ok to out myself now that I'm dead, right? ;)
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: INNNNN West Philadelphia, born and raised
trollin' WebDip is how I spent most of my days
Packing games, multis, we all collude
to team up some poor Russian newb
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: When a couple of mods who weren't being cool
Saying we were breaking some stupid site rule
I sent one little message with more cusses than I planned
He said "You better try Playdip, 'cause now you're all banned"
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: ^ IMHO the best forum meme of all time
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Russia has a Valis point.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: There's no way Valis is in this game. I never got muted.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Let's be honest: The West only pays attention to "Human Rights" when OIL is on the line...
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: seize the oil in the name of Human Rights, oldest play in the book...
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: This is why I drive electric. Of course The Congo mines most of the world's cobalt...
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: well. everything we do, essentially, damages the environment. Pretty much all human activity damages the environment, including using the internet to play diplomacy.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: my god. I've been mistaken for Valis.

Now THAT hurts.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: but we cannot go back to the 1800s... so the best hope is that science will figure out a new viable source of clean power and come up with other scientific solutions to all these other environmental problems.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Didn't accuse anyone of being anyone. Just recycling old forum jokes.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: This just makes me wish I'd been around long enough to get these jokes.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: You'll be valisdated soon enough.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Is the old forum archived somewhere? That'd be amusing.....

And solar and wind are relatively clean. Relatively being the key word, but they're massively better than any sources that have come before, except perhaps hydro.
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: http://webdiplomacy.net/forum.php?viewthread=1195051#1195051
12 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Yes, it's a bit silly waiting for new tech when solar, wind and hydro are mature and cheaper than coal.

You can find pretty much anything on the old forum using google, if you remember enough of the words you're looking for. That's how I found the fresh webDip rap.
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: While they are relatively clean in terms of the generation of energy, they are anything but with regards to making. I'm not familiar with the numbers but I think its about 7 years of use for a solar panel to become eco-friendly vs coal. That being said, they're still a good alternative and are probably the future.
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: That's not even remotely the reality. That's a fake fact put out by the coal industry, in fact. The actual analysis is more complicated, because it depends heavily on what kind of electricty you are using in the manufacture. Multicrystalline cells have an energy payback of around four years, BUT if that energy is renewable, the carbon payback is a LOT less than that. (Mostly fossil fuels are still used in mining, so that's hard to avoid as long as that's true, but the rest can be done with renewable electricity pretty much).

Yeah, i work in the renewable energy industry.
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Ooo interesting, as I said I haven't done the research and do support solar etc, may have to read into it when I get a chance in more depth.
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: @Russia, thoughts in Hydro vs Solar?
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Or thorium?
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Solar is scalable, hydro isn't. Hydro more cost effective until it isn't.
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: What France said. Hydro is great in a lot of ways, but the opportunities to place it are limited. California uses a lot of hydro, but can't get to 100% with it.
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: Some places like Brazil use next to no fossil fuels for electricity largely from massive hydro resources, so it depends on geography, largely.
13 Sep 18 UTC Spring, 1911: what about cold fusion, how long until that is reality? By products are less harmful than fission... Question directed at Russia.
