14 May 18 UTC Spring, 1901: Moderator: (ghug): Welcome to the 2018 Gunboat Tournament!

You've been placed into seven games. If you're not in seven games, you haven't received each power exactly once, or you feel you've been put in the tournament in error, please contact me as soon as possible.

Games have been paused to ensure that nobody misses a phase due to the abnormal nature of the game starts. If you have not voted unpause by Wednesday, May 15th, I will contact you and begin docking from your seven days of allocated pause time in one day increments. If you need a pause, please let me know.

Good luck!
26 Jul 18 UTC Good game guys. I did one mistake losing Silesia that costed me the solo.
26 Jul 18 UTC Austria attacking me for so long gave you the chance by forcing me to throw away the North. Lucky for us he stopped just in time to save it :)

Good game all
26 Jul 18 UTC Interesting game. Austria with the Venice Gambit Spring 1901.... congratulations Hamilton Brian on making it to 1918. Clearly this opening can work in tournament play and Austrian players should consider it in gunboat as a wild card. I'm proud I survived to the draw and stalemated MAO. Thank you Hamilton Brian for the mediterranean supports! You almost had it, rdrivera2005!
26 Jul 18 UTC Oh my god it only worked because I decided to dide with Austria until he stabbed me - it should’ve been a 3 way at best
26 Jul 18 UTC I agree, it should have been a solo and I will have a sure place on next round :-)
26 Jul 18 UTC Good game all!
26 Jul 18 UTC I thought I would try something different besides the old "Italy and Austria should be friends right away" strategy. In the end, it was not effective. Too many variables at play, obviously. Wusti, I'll have to go back to figure out when I decided that attacking you was no longer an optimal strategy. I figure it has something to do with a number I saw France at.
26 Jul 18 UTC I don't make good enough use of the Notes tab but I had one note written for this game:
Autumn, 1901: An abyssmal start since I have Russia in Galicia. Turkey could go for Serbia and block any build. Russia goes for Rum with 2, and Bud from Gal. 3 numbers of mine overwhelm Venice. Turkey gains 2, Russia gains 2 including one of my homes.
26 Jul 18 UTC Now, my relationship with Russia is summed up here.

Spting 1902, saw Gal>Boh, took that as a potential threat. Hence the move to Vienna, leaving Venice with only Trieste support. Also, the failed move of RUm to Serbia. Pretty ballsy for Russia to attempt that, I thought.

Did I miss the support for Trieste >Serbia? But then I offered Rumania support to Serbia in fall 1903.

Spring 1908...I wonder if, realizing I was having a hard time eliminating Italy and seeing you ready to take all of Turkey, I felt you were more of a threat to me, and France not so much. Hence the move to Gal, and Rum. That then created a consistent battle until Autumn 1910. Spring 1911, with France at 13 centres, I think was the signal I needed to realize we couldn't keep at one another.

In the end, had I not interpreted the early moves as hostile, I might have been able to accomplish the elimination of Italy. That tells me that it will ONLY be successful if Russia is occupied by Turkey. Whichever doesn't matter, as you'll have to ally with one at some point.
