13 May 18 UTC Spring, 1901: Moderator: (ghug): Welcome to the 2018 Gunboat Tournament!

You've been placed into seven games. If you're not in seven games, you haven't received each power exactly once, or you feel you've been put in the tournament in error, please contact me as soon as possible.

Games have been paused to ensure that nobody misses a phase due to the abnormal nature of the game starts. If you have not voted unpause by Wednesday, May 15th, I will contact you and begin docking from your seven days of allocated pause time in one day increments. If you need a pause, please let me know.

Good luck!
26 May 18 UTC Autumn, 1901: Moderator: (ghug): As our phishing investigation has concluded, this game is being unpaused. I've reset the phase to give you time to get back up to speed, but feel free to ready up before then.

If you have any questions or concerns, address them to, and remember to be careful both here and elsewhere on the internet with your private info.

18 Jul 18 UTC Ugh, that one's going to sting. Good game France.
18 Jul 18 UTC Gg! Bummed we couldn’t have worked together Russia
18 Jul 18 UTC gg guys
18 Jul 18 UTC Good game xorxes. Good game all. Turkey was inept.
18 Jul 18 UTC GG xorxes... and aye, germany.
18 Jul 18 UTC Russia, just out of curiosity, when you retreated to Livonia rather than disbanding, were you actually aware of how much that would impact what I had to do? Like, was it a big, "screw you" or was it just your only retreat option so you took it?
18 Jul 18 UTC Austria, I wasn't SURE what effect it would have. It was not the only choice, nor was i specifically trying to impact you... just trying to teach the horse to sing, maybe. (do you know that reference?)
18 Jul 18 UTC I don't actually know that reference haha, I apologise for my lack of culture. And fair enough, it just felt like a throw at first (which I totally get), but then when you moved that next season, it no longer felt like you were trying to throw to France there, so I was just confused.
18 Jul 18 UTC No lack of culture! I only know it from a Sci Fi short story referencing an old arab fable... a thief was caught, and brought before the sultan. He was sentenced to death, but on the way out, he heard the sultan bemoaning his horse's lack of musical skill... so the thief called out, "I can teach your horse to sing!" The sultan released him for ONE YEAR. And then death if the horse couldn't sing. The thief's friends said, "you idiot! Why did you promise THAT?" He answered, "It gives me a year.... and who knows. Maybe the horse will sing!"

I often think this in Diplomacy... in deathly desperate situations, I try to take one last unlikely prospect... because I am still alive... and who knows? The horse might sing.
18 Jul 18 UTC So you might have accidentally left me a SC to move to... or something...
18 Jul 18 UTC Great story haha I'll have to remember that one. Fair enough on your rationale there. Really wish I would have guessed correctly and gotten the line set right there but oh well. Still a very fun game and certainly a well deserved solo.
18 Jul 18 UTC I kicked myself for not guessing correctly and winning in S10 too, so that turn it could have been sealed either way but it stayed open. It was a guessing game there at the end.
