08 Jun 18 UTC Autumn, 1907: Sounds like you're in a great negotiating position then, Swordsman, since you're not attached to getting that house.

I once had a friend who got a job offer to move to Chicago. He didn't want to move that much because it was cold windy and away from his friends and family. But they were going to offer him significantly more money. He asked for $5,000 more than he was currently making and they said yes. But then he realized he was stuck with just a $5,000 increase and still didn't really want to move. The moral of the story is that he should have asked for a $15,000 increase and then if they said yes he would have been excited to move instead of indifferent.

So go low enough to a number you would feel excited about, and feel like you have enough to fix all needed! You never know, they might say yes, or come back lower than you expected. Or they may say screw off, but then you just go look for a better option.
08 Jun 18 UTC Autumn, 1907: Exactly my friend. You never know what someone is willing to accept, so I'm going to come up with some kind of response today and see what happens tomorrow.
11 Jun 18 UTC Spring, 1908: I think I mentioned it in passing before but I'm away for work/vacation starting this Thursday night. I'd really appreciate the pause until I get back on July 2nd.

Sorry about that, I didn't expect the game to still be going on at this point...
11 Jun 18 UTC Spring, 1908: #cancel
12 Jun 18 UTC Spring, 1908: Hell I can’t deny anybody the favor after I asked for 4 weeks
12 Jun 18 UTC Spring, 1908: Also I walked away from that house it had other problems :(
12 Jun 18 UTC Spring, 1908: Good job walking away, Swordsman. Not always easy to do. You'll find a better one. :)

Pause is fine.
12 Jun 18 UTC Spring, 1908: So we have until Thursday to kill Yonni is what I hear.

Jk, pause is fine. We all seem to love those around here.
12 Jun 18 UTC Spring, 1908: Thanks guys.
15 Jun 18 UTC Vashta, don't forget to pause, please.
Tue 03 Jul UTC Hey guys, I'm back. Should I just unpause or should we ask a mod to roll the clock back to 24hrs or something like that? Or I can just wait to unpause until tomorrow morning if people want a day to get their bearings.

I won't send out press until I know what's up.
Wed 04 Jul UTC Happy Independence Day to you Yanks
Wed 04 Jul UTC Happy 4th all!

I can unpause Monday, but honestly July is so swamped that I'd be up for just continuing the pause until the end of July if others are also busy.
Thu 05 Jul UTC I'll go with the flow here. Whatever the consensus is.

Thanks for the commemoration. I made sure to read the U.S. Declaration of Independence, per tradition, and the list of grievances portion never ceases to surprise me even though I have seen it many times.
Thu 05 Jul UTC I had never heard of the list of grievances so I had to google it. The first thing that came up was this article from 2006 comparing the grievances to the Bush administration. Not a particularly great huffpo article but I thought it was funny how cut an paste it could feel with the current administration.

"He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands [WALL ALONG THE MEXICO BORDER/].

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers. [SUPREME COURT NOMINATIONS]

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone for the tenure of their offices [SUPREME COURT NOMINATIONS]

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world [STEEL TARRIFS]"

Thu 05 Jul UTC At any rate, I'll forgive you forgetting my country's birthday and my preferences for this game would be:

1. cancel
2. draw
3. pause until august

This start and go has been pretty ridiculous. It doesn't feel like a particularly genuine game anymore and I'd love for it to be done so I can just start another one (I don't want to have two parallel games and the GB tournament)
Thu 05 Jul UTC Yeah that's exactly the kind of reaction I'm talking about. Thanks for pointing out some specifics.
Tue 10 Jul UTC Seems like we're all super busy with either webDip, WorldCup, Gunboat tourney, work, summer, travel, etc..

Pauses are a part of the game, and I don't feel that justifies a cancel.

I'm not ready to draw this game.

I am open to pause until August, OR even a pause until September, if that makes it easier for Yonni to work in another full press game now, and if that suits others.

What's the consensus?
Tue 10 Jul UTC I’m ok with whatever
Tue 10 Jul UTC I'm not picky
Tue 10 Jul UTC I propose we pause until September 5th (the Wednesday after Labor Day). Please reply below if you agree to this extended pause, to accommodate all our various summer schedules.
Tue 10 Jul UTC #honestlygladimdead
Wed 11 Jul UTC Don't extend the pause for my sake but I'll agree to whatever.
Wed 11 Jul UTC i agree. I bought my house yesterday by the way
Wed 11 Jul UTC Congrats!
Wed 11 Jul UTC Congrats, real exciting (and scary).
Wed 11 Jul UTC Congratulations, Swordsman!!!
Wed 11 Jul UTC Fine with it. And congrats!
Wed 11 Jul UTC Ok, it's official -- all players have agreed to pause until September 5th.

Enjoy your summers, gunboat tourneys, and new homes! :D
Wed 11 Jul UTC Thank you! It was exhausting, I had a really terrible problem with the appraiser and almost lost my deposit (and the sale) and at one point I thought for sure that was going to happen, only to find out the next day it was fine...really put a damper in the fun but I am relieved it's all over.
