10 Oct 17 UTC Autumn, 1902: I think we can officially say that maturity and GR are not correlated =P
15 Oct 17 UTC Spring, 1903: Apologies for the lack of press this phase. It was a weird weekend. I'm be back up to snuff now.
16 Oct 17 UTC Autumn, 1903: Moderator: (zultar): This game is shaping up very nicely. :)
17 Oct 17 UTC Autumn, 1903: Not for everyone!
17 Oct 17 UTC Autumn, 1903: #rude
17 Oct 17 UTC Autumn, 1903: It isn't going less nicely for anyone than me, but I agreed with zultar. :-)
26 Oct 17 UTC Autumn, 1904: The poor German and English. The two minds can't beat one. Awe.
01 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: I will need to be replaced. My pause up so you can do whatever
01 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Sorry to hear that, hope you're OK.
01 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Moderator: (zultar): I've paused the game because it looks like it was going to run out before everyone can vote. I will try to find a replacement soon.
02 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Thanks for the Pause, zultar. I'm willing to wait indefinitely or wind it down however others prefer.
02 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: (My pause vote isn't advocacy to Cancel, but instead a willingness.)
02 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Well I'd be happy to carry this on, though my general feeling is a new player usually changes the whole dynamic of a thing - sometimes irreparably... If others would rather wind it up, I'd be happy to do that also.

That being said, I'd rather hoped I might manage to muddle my way out of this alive. A cancel rather defeats the hard(ish) work already put into achieving that goal, so I'd probably be more in favour of a draw. Though I can also appreciate that the actual setup and other's positions probqbly don't merit a draw...

That's not very helpful, is it...
02 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: How is a draw and a cancel different here?
02 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: I have always been under the impression that a cancel got rid of a game as if it had never been. Whereas a draw from my current position is really a win :)
03 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: I'd rather not throw the game out of the window.
03 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Hey everybody! Thanks for the invite to the party, happy to get the game going again. I'll assume we're following the traditional 'nobody attack the replacement for 4 turns' rules....
03 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Moderator: (zultar): I think this game has a lot of life left. It seems like the replacement France will do just fine. :)

I will unpause the game in 48 hours to give France time to negotiate. Good luck!
05 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1905: Moderator: (zultar): I will unpause tomorrow morning and hopefully this will be the last time I will interfere with the game. :)
13 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1906: Anyone fancy a drink in Marseille?
13 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1906: It's the flavour of the day
15 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1906: Apologies for the NMR. I got tied up.
16 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1906: Shit happens
17 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1906: Hey all, sorry to do this, but can I have a very short pause until Sunday? I'm leaving tonight for a wedding out of town tomorrow. I'll be getting back Sunday, but I think this will be an important turn and I don't want to be absent for most of it.
17 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1906: Pause is up, have fun!
17 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1907: Sure thing, pause is up.
19 Nov 17 UTC Spring, 1907: Italy? Pause?
19 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Thanks for asking, England. I did very nearly miss it. I think I came upon it with something like 9 minutes left.

I've just been unusually busy recently.
20 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Back from wedding...will get to press tomorrow. Thanks for patience
21 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: I deeply apologize for missing the pause request. I was very busy before and over the weekend and missed the public press. I just very nearly pressed pause now just on the votes. If this is still wanted, please repeat the request.
21 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: It’s all good. It was a late request and shit happens. No worries - I’m good to go.
21 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Gents, it's been a pleasure but I feel this game has become a bit of a drag. Shall we call it a day?
21 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Nah man, I'm totally going to solo..
21 Nov 17 UTC Autumn, 1907: Draw is up.
21 Nov 17 UTC Well, boo. I don't think this game should draw. There is still plenty of play left in it. We are not remotely close to either a stalemate situation or prevention of an imminent solo (indeed, Germany likely offers draw now because he recognises that his premature solo bid was effectively curtailed). I say this all as one of the relatively weaker powers on the board, not because a recent development has suddenly put me in pole position to solo myself.

I think it's against the spirit of the game to draw now, and I think it's bad for the site. IMO, this game has barely gotten started. There should be a united response against Germany's solo attempt, and then after his threat is reduced there should be live, exciting issues on whom in the union breaks rank first and on what expected terms. It's bad practice for a player to make an early solo bid and then everybody immediately packs up after it is stopped. A 7wd is an abomination against nature.

All that said, this isn't Twelve Angry Men. The other six of you voted draw, and I'm not going to be the one guy who refuses to draw. While it might not play out that FG quickly eliminate me for a 6wd, I'd rather not take the chance of sticking out like a sore thumb. Soooo, I guess draw it is. Bleah.
21 Nov 17 UTC I'll post my thoughts soon - but I didn't much want to draw either - as I hate early draws in games and I agree that it is not a good thing for the site...but I broke my thumb playing hockey on Sunday, and typing has been somewhat difficult, so I took advantage of a situation where I could get out.
21 Nov 17 UTC IMO, people care way too much about GR - which leads to games that end early like this. I almost feel like I need to play unranked games for people to take some chances.
21 Nov 17 UTC Well I enjoyed myself anyway and while I agree that a seven-way draw seems crazy, I wasn't keen to prolong things only to find myself squeezed back out of the draw I'd managed to talk myself into... In any case, this has been fun!!
21 Nov 17 UTC I'll write more about the game later on, but I totally agree that a 7 way draw is ridiculous. I have never done a 7 way, for me this equates to cancelling the game. Personally I lost interest in it due to all these delays, pauses, NMRs, substitutions etc. I have got to say I was expecting something different from a top100 game.

The game has a lot of life left in it for sure, but It felt like it's 3 am and everybody is yawning so we might as well pack up. And maybe it's also me that haven't got the energy to push hard enough to get a win - you are all soooo lucky;)

I couldn't care less about GR, in fact this was my very first FP game here...there is more to life then GR!

long live the pirate ship!
21 Nov 17 UTC I agree that it's an abomination, but I didn't see myself surviving very long so I thought it was in my interest to draw. I would play again.
21 Nov 17 UTC Maybe next time with hidden draw votes =P
21 Nov 17 UTC Unfortunately my GR has dropped below 100 since the start of the game so I'd likely not get invited to a rematch
21 Nov 17 UTC For my two cents, this was my first press games in years (except for a couple that I signed up for on accident), and it truly was fun to talk through the moves with other players again. I normally don't do press just because I don't have computer access at my work, so I go long stretches without talking to anyone, which people sometimes take the wrong way. I'll probably do another one again soon (once my 1v1 tourney games wind down), have enjoyed this one for the short while that I was in it.
21 Nov 17 UTC Hey genghiz, you haven't come in the game just for me have you?
21 Nov 17 UTC Yeah - I'm taking a break until the new year to recharge the dip batteries. Thanks for subbing in genghiz - its a tough task jumping into a game mid way through.
21 Nov 17 UTC Yes, thanks but no thanks;) I hate substitutions, they completely hangs the game.
BTW - is it possible to know the identity of the initial French player?
21 Nov 17 UTC We could ask zultar, but in general there is no way for players to find out who was subbed out. I am curious myself.
21 Nov 17 UTC Moderator: (zultar): I'm a little disappointed that it ended in a 7-way draw, but I can understand that when there are many interruptions and pauses, the game can just feel like a drag. The 7th person was ssorenn, who actually asked me to start this game for him. I did it as a favor to him and when he was silenced for breaking forum rules, he just angrily demanded out and luckily genghiz was willing to come in.
22 Nov 17 UTC Ah, that explains a lot!
22 Nov 17 UTC Don't worry about your GR dropping, Condescension. I'm sure you could get into a rematch - I mean, I managed to talk my way into this game with a GR >1000 so...
