14 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Spain]:Thanks for pausing, everyone! I will be back to in pause on Monday May 22
23 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Spain]:Thank you, everyone. I am back and have voted to unpause. I really appreciate this.
23 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Germany]:How about we not unpause?
23 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Axum]:What is your need, sweet Germany?
23 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Germany]:I just think that unpause is the wrong button to press, that's all.
23 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [India]:Amen.
24 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Turan]:Fair point, but we're so close to the end either way
26 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Germany]:Well, I don't know what to do about it. Sorry.
26 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Byzantinum]:oh god
we're back
26 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [France]:Don't forget, on December 24,
France is coming back from the north!
So hurry up and end this game,
Everything else would be a shame.

*slowly disappears into the shadow again*
27 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Germany]:Axum, I know you have an incredibly tough choice regarding retreats, but everyone but Turan is voting draw. If you want to protest your death, great, but Turan obviously has nothing to do but wait on a Diplomacy game to end, so you're only making it annoying for the rest of us who have lives and want this over and are happy to include you by stalling retreats.
27 May 17 UTC Autumn, 916: [Axum]:Wagadu hasn't even shown up yet to enter retreats
03 Jun 17 UTC Autumn, 917: [Wagadu]:Tis a sad day.
03 Jun 17 UTC Autumn, 917: [Axum]:Look, he's out. Perfect time for the draw.
05 Jun 17 UTC Autumn, 917: [Turan]:Sure... ;)
05 Jun 17 UTC [Germany]:Is it over yet
07 Jun 17 UTC [Turan]:Normally I don't talk out the philosophies that drive my play, as I don't want other people to be able to use that information against me in the future. However, given how I forced an abnormally long end game here, I believe that the remaining players deserve an explanation as to why I decided to extend this game so much past everyone's else desires.

The first and foremost reason, as most of you can likely guess, is stubbornness. Once I have decided on a goal, and it is within my power to achieve, I am going to see it through. This one isn't too complicated, but it has significant interplay with the subsequent reasons.

What I decided to pursue in this game was a draw reduced as much as possible. There were a few reasons behind this choice. Foremost is my philosophy about what constitutes a victory condition in Diplomacy. To me, as it should be to everyone, a solo is the best outcome possible. Barring that, a draw reduced as much as possible is the next best. For most games, that is not a big deal. Classic is a smaller game, and eliminations take much less time as a result.

So why am I telling you this? Lots of you questioned why I was forcing the game on for more eliminations if I would only get four to six more points from it, and little GR as well, since it is heavily weighted against variant games. Well, I don't care about points, and that little amount of GR is not worth an extra two months of play. So what did I get out of forcing the game on further? As I became one of the driving forces in the elimination of others, I began to question what the goal of the game was.
After the ease of which I dismembered China and then India (Sorry about that), I began pursuing rapid expansion with the hopes of a solo. All through to the end of 907, things went well. I was the board lead, with more or less unhindered expansion. However, in 907, I also began seriously opening relations with the west, and found my press with them incredibly awkward and occasionally confusing. In subsequent years, I was particularly confused about France's choices. He somewhat ceased communicating with me, and decided to convoy up behind my lines, even when Germany and Spain were taking the rest of his centres. Because of France's strange moves, and my inability to connect in press with Germany or Spain, I felt it was necessary to hold back in pursuing a northern route to a solo. By the end of 909, I pulled back in the north. I did not have the ability to push a solo in the north. From there, my play shifted significantly. I moved to eliminating players rather than pushing for centres, at least as my primary goal.

As my solo became a dream rather than a possible reality, I did question what was the point of eliminating Khazaria, Arabia, France, and Srivijaya, especially after Germany started asking me about ending the game. Germany tried to persuade me that the size of the draw doesn't matter. If so, I questioned what justified eliminating anyone. Why did India or France deserve to die, but not others?
I came to the conclusion that the only way for it to be fair to force the elimination of some, would be to eliminate everyone I could. How could it be fair to eliminate India or Srivijaya because it was within my power, but give Axum or Wagadu differential treatment, only because it might take a little bit longer?

Now, here we are. I'm sorry that most (probably all) of you did not appreciate what I was pursuing. However, I'm not sorry that I pursued it. I am content with the end that this has come to. I wish you luck in all your future games, and hope that we may cross paths again in the future.
07 Jun 17 UTC [Germany]:I knew it was you, PF. Fucking hell I can't believe we modded you.
07 Jun 17 UTC [Turan]::)
07 Jun 17 UTC [Khazaria]:How in the hell did I get put in the middle of 3 of the biggest dicks I've ever played this game with. FML.oh well
