06 Apr 15 UTC | Spring, 1994: My first game of diplomacy in at least half a year, glad to be back. Good luck, may the dagger always be in your hand, never in your back. So I've not played this variant before, anyone familiar with early game trends? Or could point me toward some material on this variant, vis-a-vis how it tends to play out? |
06 Apr 15 UTC | Spring, 1994: no idea either how bout we go allies lol |
06 Apr 15 UTC | Spring, 1994: So is not communicating during opening a standard thing now? It seems odd that none of my neighbors have anything to say. |
06 Apr 15 UTC | Spring, 1994: Normally theres a bit of chatter. Silence is never a great sign |
06 Apr 15 UTC | Spring, 1994: No I dont trus non com players...even less than those who do lol |
06 Apr 15 UTC | Spring, 1994: Well, I have found with experienced players playing variants that they are very familiar with typically talk less during the opening turn. The reasoning for this (my guess) would be that, depending on the variant, there is a limited number of reasonable openings. I mean, for example in the modern variant for Britain: Option 1: Edi - Nwgn Sea Lon - Nor Sea Liv - Iri Sea Gib - SAO Option 2: Edi - Nor Sea Lon - Eng Liv - NAO Gib - SoG I mean...any other move for each unit seems a tad bit silly and counter productive (apart from Gib possibly staying put) So there isn't much for Britain to discuss move-wise. Alliances are another thing entirely...However, again with experienced players, they typically talk a little pre 1st move and then observe the movements of their neighbors to garner what their intentions may or may not be and compare that to pre-move chatter. So, I would imagine there will be much more talking after the first move....Unless people are already lying and chatter is normal....and they just want others to think that chatter is down. (shifty eyes) |

26 Apr 15 UTC | Autumn, 1999: Ok, guys. As much as I would like to continue this game, at this point with Egypt being gone it would become grossly unfair to continue this game, don't you think? Thoughts? |
