09 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1904: I have done that sort of post game trolling before, so I understand England's position here.
09 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1904: I'm not sure 'post' is the right word...just entered a disband order after all :)
09 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1904: England is a player in the game, so he has rights to write in the Global chat. I don't fully understand why France has a problem with this.
15 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1905: Assuming the game's still on is there any objection to having the Christmas week off?
16 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1905: None here.
17 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1905: As long as Russia and Italy eliminate me before then! :p (seriously, no hard feelings, but I'm on my way out and a 1-centre pause sucks)
20 Dec 13 UTC Spring, 1906: guys im set on travelling too so I definitely wouldn't mind a pause
22 Dec 13 UTC Autumn, 1906: I guess we need to team up on Russia to stop the solo, sorry about the miscommunication all.
31 Dec 13 UTC Spring, 1907: Gents, shall we resume play?
Btw happy New Year to all!
31 Dec 13 UTC Spring, 1907: Indeed! May our orders reflect the spirit of drunken merriment of the season!
11 Jan 14 UTC Spring, 1908: (goldfinger0303): Hello all,

I am sorry to do this, but I will be disabling the wait-for-orders mode in this game and all remaining games in the Masters. This feature has unfortunately been systematically abused in most every game, and by more than a few players. It was implemented with the best intentions - to prevent NMR's - but it seems to have created delays, arguments and metagaming problems that impact the game far more than any NMR would.

If a player appears to be about to miss a phase, please email webdipmod@gmail.com asking for an emergency pause. I will not be able to monitor all games closely, so I trust everyone's honor as a player to help me in this manner.

Finally, I am deeply sorry for any problems caused in this tournament due to the wait-for-orders mode. The purpose of this tournament is to have fun, after all (well, and win) and anything that takes away from that I count as a poor reflection on the tournament, and thus myself.

If you have any concerns, please feel free to email or PM me.
11 Jan 14 UTC Spring, 1908: No worries. It was an interesting experiment, and probably worth trying. A shame it didn't work, but c'est la vie.
26 Jan 14 UTC Spring, 1910: Sorry about not readying up, all. Visiting family most of the weekend :)
31 Jan 14 UTC Autumn, 1910: What the hell just happened?!?
31 Jan 14 UTC Autumn, 1910: I had a family emergency. Russia basically announced he wanted a solo to happen, so bully for you France. Unstoppable.
31 Jan 14 UTC Autumn, 1910: Sorry to hear that. Are things improving?
31 Jan 14 UTC Autumn, 1910: Well, this game will be over in a few moves, so that should help.
31 Jan 14 UTC Autumn, 1910: Italy, I guess you misunderstood me: I only said that I think there are too many draws on this server and made a deal with France that the two of us would make a race for the solo. However as France stabbed me, I said I was willing to make a deal with Italy to stop France if Italy stopped attacking me. But that if Italy would continue attacking me, I would let France win. As Italy indeed stopped attacking me, I am willing to try stopping France if still possible.
31 Jan 14 UTC Autumn, 1910: Good stuff. In that light would Italy want a short pause before continuing, or are you ok to carry on?
01 Feb 14 UTC Autumn, 1910: I am fine, which is why I readied rather than saving.
06 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1911: Ok, total BS. I _KNOW_ I changed my order to Greece over Ionian after I spoke with Russia earlier. Gotta love that keystone Kops bumbling.
06 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1911: Don't worry. I've been entering orders drunk too. After months of battles with banks and solicitors I'm finally buying a house :D
16 Feb 14 UTC Autumn, 1912: Ah, glad to hear it. How about we draw to celebrate? SM line isn't going anywhere, it seems.
16 Feb 14 UTC Autumn, 1912: My vote has been in for a while. When our Russian friend arrives we shall see if the game has reached the end of its life, or whether there is a final twist.
22 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1913: Wow, glad I remembered to log back in when I did. Was 8 minutes away from NMR.
24 Feb 14 UTC Autumn, 1913: Damnit, I can't believe I missed orders,
25 Feb 14 UTC Autumn, 1913: It is totally farked up that the only game I have had troubles with entering orders on time has been the game they turned wait for orders mode off. Such BS.
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: I think they turned off wait for orders in all the masters' games some time recently.

And unrelatedly, let me say that from the vantage point of my grave, this game is very entertaining. I haven't seen just three players have this much fun in a long time.
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: Happened spring '08, 10 Jan 2014, yeah.
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: (goldfinger0303): Hi all. I've received a request to roll back the phase. I'm assuming both Italy and Russia agree. France, if you agree too, then I shall do it. Otherwise, I'm reluctant to do so.
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: I see no reason to. I have not been asked to roll back the game by anyone, nor was there any interest in doing so the last time there was an NMR. I did offer the draw when I believed the game was stalemated but was not taken up on it. Indeed, as Russia continues to show no interest in drawing I can only assume he wishes to carry on the game until myself or Italy makes an error in his favour.
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: I don't think it is necessary, you clearly told us earlier in the game that wait for orders mode was off.
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: Very decent of you to say so :).
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: I think there are too many easy draws and a lack of fighting spirit, so yes my preferred outcome is a solo win by someone - preferably by me ;)
But yeah if France wins, I will prefer such an outcome to a three way draw in terms of sportive result. Still, I will fight hard to stop it from happening.
As for rolling back the game, I simply did not know that the wfom was off - my mistake seemingly as you guys say it was announced - and I also think that solos shall be achieved by pure cunning and not by some other players NMRing. However if France achieves solo, great praise on him in any case, noone can blame him for another player NMR.
What I find totally wrong is that WFOM has been on in one phase of the tournament then off in another, it creates unbalance, it should not have been changed during the tournament. This means that to me the outcome will not be a fair one - hence my request to roll back the game by one turn. Anyhow, it is only my opinion ;)
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: I think it is total BS to have not at least left the WFOM setting in through the end of the tournament. We all had to put up with it in other games, so it is just lame to not enjoy the same benefit for us in this game.

I am pretty much done on this site once this and a few other games finish, so long term it doesn't really matter to me either way. WFOM did come across as a smart notion, as needless NMR's do seem to plague many games here. There do seem to be some pretty simple solutions to the issue, but they would require more Mod intervention (I.e. If someone isn't entering orders in their masters game, but is clearly logging in because they are not NMR'ing in other games they are playing, perhaps the Mod could just force the phase to progress to punish the person purposefully delaying the game).
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: Really? It'll be a shame to see you go (although in all honesty this will likely be my last game for a while).

In hindsight it may have been better to keep WFOM going to the end, although the change was clearly made with the best of intentions.
27 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: The point of a rule change is consistency, IMHO. Deciding in game 7 to rescind the new rule rather than waiting until the entire tournament ended is a bit of odd decision.
28 Feb 14 UTC Spring, 1914: I agree with both of you. Actually I also plan to take a break as this tournament has been very long, but this game and more generally the tourney has been very pleasant so I look forward to playing with you gain some time!
03 Mar 14 UTC Autumn, 1914: Good news, everyone! I've finally got the internet connected to the new house so will be able to enter orders without resorting to mobile phone screens again :D! The era of messages sent to the wrong people and orders placed like a drunkard is at an end :).
03 Mar 14 UTC Autumn, 1914: Well... maybe not the last one...
06 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1915: I take it you're bowing out? Fair enough. Waiting for me to get my act together in the end game is a bit like watching paint dry :p.

Still, great game both of you :)
06 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1915: Sorry guys, my first NMR in the tourney, due to very heavy workload. But I guess that after we lost Tunis the game was over already.
06 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1915: Probably, but the journey could have been rather fun. Looking forward to finding out who you both are.
06 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1915: I didn't mean to NMR again, just way too busy with work and other stuff. Again, beyond shitty that the only game played without the wait for orders mode is basically the only NMR's I have had this tournament. (I did miss the phase by less than an hour on one of my games but fortunately the smart WFOM idea saved the day.

Not so much in this crapfest though.
06 Mar 14 UTC Funnily enough in one of my previous games I was accused of NMRing despite the fact that WFOM was fully operational. Not everyone was fully up to speed on the system, I fear.

Still, lets wrap this up and move on to new and exciting things. Sadly I've promised my other half I will stop playing the game for a few months. I think I will miss it.
06 Mar 14 UTC I had made the same promise to my wife a few months back. I somehow managed to join a few games after that, and as karma would have it, wound up getting rocked in almost all of them. I will likely be off the site for a while as well.
06 Mar 14 UTC I know I will miss some parts of it, but there is plenty that I will be glad to not be constantly around.
06 Mar 14 UTC I'm thinking of maybe allowing myself the occasional live game. Get back to the style of game that got me addicted in the first place. Give the daily chore aspect of the game a miss.
09 Mar 14 UTC Well, that's that. Cheers for a fun game, all. In the words of Mrs Octavious a few hours ago "this is not Diplomacy time. Diplomacy is done".

I think I'm going to enjoy the break :).

Hope to see you around when I start playing again!
10 Mar 14 UTC Congratulations to Mr Octavious for his brilliant victory!
My best regards to Mrs Octavious, and I guess my girlfriend will also be glad to see me take a little break from the game - I look forward to seeing you all in a few months' time!
