24 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1901: draw or cancel?
28 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: We're onto our third Turkey.

Just out of interest, why do players pick up CD countries they know are doomed?
28 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: Make something out of nothing, possibly. Shake up the game. Lower Ghost Rating so defeating opponents in a full game has more impact. Demonstrate a lack of fear of defeat. Possibly force a weird draw. And most importantly, because the mayhem is fun.
28 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: (When you take over a CD country, it only costs a small number of points. But in the ghost rating system the *full loss* is allocated only to the last player who took over. For all the previous players for that power, it's as if they didn't play. So your ghost rating goes significantly lower but you don't lose many points at all.)
28 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: Is Ghost Rating that much of a big deal?
28 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1902: Many people care about Ghost Ratings, so I try me best to damage any opponents rating. It's calibrated to the "quality" of the opposition, so losing to someone, or drawing with someone with a low GR (and mine is among the worst) has more effect.
28 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: Okay, interesting.

But that doesn't improve your own GR though, right?
28 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: Your GR goes up when you win and sometimes when you draw depending on the opposition. It always goes down when you lose. I always play to win... I dream only of winning... but I do not fear defeat and will take on a hopeless cause. In the end this destroys my own GR, and makes me the type of opponent no one wants to lose to or draw with. It's like losing a fight with a baby.
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: Well, it's a different way of looking at it, certainly.

I checked my GR last night, and just now, and I've risen a few places without a turn being made. That's the effect of people above me losing, right?
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: I thought it was updated monthly
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: lt's draw
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: let's draw
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: What a crappy game when a power is absent from the beginning. Its not even close to being balanced. We should draw.
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: We would all get some points back and some would get even more than what they started it.
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: Interesting you should say that, France. I see a major reason why you have a win to your name is because the biggest power in that game missed a couple of turns when he was poised to win.

I've won when opponents have benefitted from CDs. Play the hand that's dealt to you.
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: I've played out games where players CD, just as I am doing now but I always vote draw and/or cancel as soon as it happens. There are plenty of games out there and it is just more fun to play one with seven players from the start. The original game just has a great balance that is achieved with all seven that is completely thrown off by the first round CD.
29 Sep 13 UTC Spring, 1903: 100% agree with everyone
30 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1903: haha turkey. big win for you if we draw. what happens if we cancel? everyone just gets their original bets back including the CD players right?
30 Sep 13 UTC Autumn, 1903: MOOT
04 Oct 13 UTC Good game! We held back the horde!
04 Oct 13 UTC The horde's junior partners were unreliable...

Well played France and Germany, you worked well together
04 Oct 13 UTC Yes! Beautiful alliance with you France. I'll get great memories of this game (as for this alliance).
